Creating a data model for this project is an important early step. The intention is to create a series of documents that get progressively closer to a clean and flexible data model.
Additionally, the data model must take into account various import and export requirements as they relate to the data standards efforts. See the paper "XML Data Standards for Microfinance Information Exchange"

Ive revised the data model for the portfolio system yet again, and am including below as an ArgoUML? file. The basic classes, associations, and now fields can all be found in the zargo file. I still have to add primary keys to most of them, and add some descriptions / comments. I also havent specified any operations, I figured that would be overkill in specification at this point. The model is also a little light in other areas, such as HR tracking, accounting, etc., which Im sure will get filled out as we start developing and specify those modules further. But I think this lays out the core of the data model, the key entities and fields for the porfolio system and how they fit together.

The picture below still serves as a good high-level view, but may be inaccurate in places sue to normalization, refactoring, addition of classes, etc.
